Are your a wannabe blogger, or do you write to find leads?
ProBlogger is a blogger now selling something (books). CopyBlogger, Dave Taylor, Life Hacker. These are professional bloggers. It seems the advice that most take for blogging has been from guys and gals that blog professionally.
That is terrific resource when you want to be a professional blogger, selling to one specific community. The word "Blogging" itself has taken on a damaging aura. Writing or creating is a much more useful term.
And as a Realtor you must ask yourself what are you doing to serve your readership?
Here are some more questions to help break away from blogging, and transition back into Realtor the publisher.
- Do you write for your home buyers or sellers or for you and your ego?
- Is your content about your local area or about general topics like your SEO?
- Is your content something that your local prospect would find interesting? Are you writing to the right person? This reminds me of a thread I read on a bubble blog where this guy was in this conversation about how it is a horrible time to buy real estate. And he went on and on until he revealed that he has never owned a home, and in fact he never has owned a car! I thought, "why is this guy even in this forum?"
Some help to keep you on blog topic:
When we consult on the act of blog content creation, we always start out the conversation with the following tips.
- Write out your most frequently asked questions.Your FAQ’s are what you are asked on a daily basis. You answer these questions robotically don’t you? It is rehearsed because you know it so well. You know it so well because you have been asked these real estate questions over and over again. You have refined your answers as you get better every day.Write these out and outline your answers. This will be your source for creating content for your blog forever.
- Pick your advocacy. For years rookie agents have been urged to join the local Chamber and to get involved with little league and local charities. It is simply good business. What about writing about local issues? Is a new mall going to really mess up a neighborhood? Take it on. This will get you attention and make you a hero. What issues are you and your local homeowners passionate about?
We have many more in our arsenal. However, the above two tips serve many masters.
- It gives you easy to tackle topics.
- It talks to your prospect directly.
- It elevates you as THE AUTHORITY in your marketplace.

David Walker, Comptroller General, (THe U.S. tops Accountant), says that our Country is broke. I know that this is not really about real estate or marketing, but it is in a way as it affects markets, and that affects mortgages. This is an important topic that noone from either side of the aile is talking about this election year. Make them!
