Portsmouth, Virginia Portsmouth (pronounced "Port-smith") is an independent city located in the U.S. Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 100,565, but a July 1, 2002 Census estimate showed the city's population dropping to 99,790. The Norfolk Naval Shipyard, often called the Norfolk Navy Yard, is a historic and active U.S. Navy facility which is actually located in Portsmouth, despite its name. The shipyard builds, remodels, and repairs the Navy's ships of all types. Yonkers, New York Yonkers is the fourth largest city in the U.S. state of New York (behind Rochester) and the largest city in Westchester County, with a population of 196,086 (according to the 2000 census). A July 1, 2002 estimate showed the city's population to be 197,234. The population fell to 197,126 according to the 2004 estimate. Sandy, Utah Sandy is a city located in Salt Lake County, Utah and a suburb of Salt Lake City. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 88,418. A 2004 estimate placed its population at 89,979, making it the fourth largest city in Utah behind Salt Lake City, West Valley City, and Provo and just barely ahead of West Jordan, the rapidly-growing city located just west of Sandy. Paterson, New Jersey Paterson is a city located in Passaic County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000 Census, the city had a total population of 149,222. Census population projections indicate a population of 154,463 as of 2005, making it New Jersey's third largest city. It is the county seat of Passaic CountyGR6. Paterson is known as the Silk City for its dominant role in silk production during the latter 19th century.
